Skills Quizzes

The purpose of the Skills Quizzes is to measure the proficiency of students for one particular skill. Each quiz is assessed with either a grade of Pass or Zero. In the online grade book the grades will appear as either 1 or 0 graded out of 1 possible point. Generally a passing grade is achieved with a score of 85% or higher. When a quiz has only 2 or three questions a passing grade would be all problems correct. When a quiz has 4 questions, occasionally 3 out of 4 is a passing grade.

The table that follows provides a list of past and future quizzes that will be used to assess student understanding. There are Excel workbooks that are available for students to use for review and practice, and extra help is available after school. All students should work on all skills until a passing grade is achieved for each skill. In some cases there are links below that will provide access to practice quizzes; in some cases actual quizzes that students used are provided.

Students looking for additional practice should take the quizzes that are provided here and then check their answers using the keys that are also provided.

Graphing

Quiz Name Skill Assessed Practice File Passing Grade Notes
Graphing 0: Draw and identify the parts of a coordinate plane SQ-Graphing-00.pdf 100 - label the x and y axis, Quadrants I, II, III, IV, and the origin All students should be able to do this all of the time
Graphing 01: Plot and label the ordered pairs in a coordinate plane. SQ-Graphing-01.pdf The original problem as 15 points to plot, at least 12 should be perfect. The space was a little tight so maybe one or two points were off a little and you would still get a passing grade
Graphing 02: Read a graph; identify coordinates of plotted points SQ-Graphing-02.pdf 80 percent of all coordinates must be correct
Graphing 03: Identify the quadrant where a given set of coordinates would be plotted SQ-Graphing-03.pdf 8 of 9 must be correct; answers must be in roman numerals
Graphing 04: Create A Scatter Plot SQ-Graphing-04.pdf 11 points on the graph; should have 90% correct; Must have the x and y axis the way the question states. You should always put a title on a graph or plot - no points were taken away this time, but include a title for all future graphs and plots.
Graphing 05 Graph a line given the x-intercept and y-intercept. Graph05-110.pdf 3 out of 4 is okay, but 4 out of 4 is expected
Graphing 06 Find the x-intercept and y-intercept of a line, given the graph of a line. See homework assignments for practice problems
Graphing 07 Find the x-intercept and y-intercept of a line, given the equation of the line. Graph07-0.pdf 8 out of 10 is passing
Graphing 08 Graph a linear equation by solving the equation for y, making a table of values, and plotting the points. See homework assignments for practice problems
Graphing 09 Find the slope of a line that passes through two points, given a graph of the line. Graph10-0.pdf 3 out of 4 is okay - 4 out of 4 is expected Skill 9 and 10 are tested together
Graphing 10 Graph the line that passes through two points, given the coordinates of two points.
Graphing 11 Find the slope of a line that passes through two points, given the coordinates for the two points - using the slope formula. Graph11-0.pdf 8 out 10 is passing
Graphing 12 Determine the slope and the y-intercept of a line from an equation of a line written in slope-intercept form. Graph-12-13-0.pdf
Graph-12-13-0-Key.pdf
4 out of 5 for each column skills 12 and 13 are tested together
Graphing 13 Write the equation of a line in slope-intercept form given the slope and the y-intercept.
Graphing 14 Rewrite an equation of a line, by solving for y, so that the equation is in slope-intercept form. See homework assignments for practice problems
Graphing 15 Determine whether the graphs of two equations are parallel lines. See homework assignments for practice problems
Graphing 16 Write an equation to model a real-world problem, like the ticket sales problem; graph the equation; interpret the meaning of the x-intercept and y-intercept; find multiple solutions to the problem. See homework assignments for practice problems
